Preparation

Once you schedule your labiaplasty, Dr. Murariu will provide personalized instructions to help you prepare for your procedure. He may instruct you to:

  • Discontinue taking medications and supplements with blood-thinning properties.
  • Prepare to take time away from your career and other commitments.
  • Arrange transportation to and from your appointment.
  • Cease any nicotine use several weeks before your procedure and maintain full abstinence throughout your recovery.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for several days before and after your labiaplasty.
  • Fill any prescriptions you may need during your recovery.

Procedure

Dr. Murariu will perform your labiaplasty as an outpatient procedure in our surgical center. He will first meet with you to review and reconfirm each detail of your treatment plan. A member of our team will then cleanse and sanitize your skin before you receive local anesthesia. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Murariu will begin removing tissue using one of two surgical techniques: the trim technique or the wedge technique.

  • The Trim Technique: The trim technique removes tissue from the edges of the labia minora. Dr. Murariu may employ this technique if you are primarily correcting the appearance of bulging or asymmetrical labia. This technique, however, is not suited for darker-skinned patients and may result in a scalloped labial edge. (4)
  • The Wedge Technique: The wedge technique removes a V-shaped wedge from the center of the labia. Dr. Murariu may employ this technique if you possess triangular-shaped labia or labial tissue that extends beyond your outer vaginal lips. This technique does require a longer operative time and may not address discoloration along the labial edges. (4)

Dr. Murariu may also perform advanced techniques, such as a clitoral hood reduction to address concerns with your sexual sensation or to create a more cohesive look. Once he makes each of your desired corrections, he will meticulously close each incision and let you rest before you return home.

Recovery

After your labiaplasty, you may experience certain side effects like swelling or bruising in the treated areas. These effects will gradually subside on their own, but you may also manage them with a cold compress, pain medications, and plenty of rest. During this time, you will also need to avoid sitting or placing pressure on the treated areas.

You will be able to return to desk work and other light activities after resting for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. However, you will need to continue avoiding any tampon use, physically demanding tasks, or sexual activities until Dr. Murariu clears you to resume.

He will provide you with a full set of post-operative instructions to help you care for yourself as you recover. These instructions will guide you through any activity restrictions and help direct you in managing any potential side effects.

Results

You will be able to notice improvements immediately after your procedure, but the full, refined results of your procedure will become more apparent as any residual swelling subsides.

Your labia will appear more aesthetically pleasing after Dr. Murariu removes your excess or protruding tissue, allowing you to enjoy a smaller and more symmetrical appearance.
